Carbon nanotubes are allotropic forms of
carbon consisting of a sheet of graphene rolled
into a cylinder with a half molecule of fullerene
each at the top and bottom of the cylinder.
Carbon nanotubes come in various forms,
the most common being multi-walled nanotubes (consisting of co-axial graphene cylinders) and single-walled nanotubes (only one grahene cylinder). These nanotubes are functionalised to make them more amenable for dispersion in various media.
The functional group could be either acidic or basic.
